Olga SverchkovaOlga Sverchkova biography and professional background as a Russian-qualified attorney.
Russian-qualified attorney since 2002. My professional practice has been closely connected with St Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. I work with Russian law and complex litigation matters.

Professional background
I became an attorney in 2002. Most of my professional practice has been connected with St Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. Over the years, I have worked with litigation, criminal cases, family and property disputes, commercial matters, legal consultations and the preparation of legal positions.
Experience has taught me that a complex case is rarely resolved by a single provision of law or a standard document. Facts, the sequence of events, evidence, the actions already taken by the parties, previous decisions and the result a client ultimately wants to achieve all matter.
Why I often work with case analysis
Over the years, I have seen many situations where a client already has a lawyer, documents have been prepared and the case is already before a court, yet the most important question remains unanswered: is the chosen strategy sound, what risks does it involve, and what should be done next?
That is why independent case analysis and a second legal opinion have become a distinct part of my work. I review the materials from a fresh perspective, examine the logic of the legal position, compare the documents with the factual circumstances, assess the risks and explain what options may still be available.
What matters to me in my work
1
Facts come before assumptions
I begin by reconstructing what happened and checking the facts against the available documents. In a complex case, the full sequence of events and the way individual circumstances relate to one another often matter more than any single episode.
2
Risks should be discussed openly
If a legal position is weak, the evidence is insufficient or the chosen strategy creates additional risks, I believe this should be explained before the next step is taken. A client needs a realistic assessment, not a promise of a particular result.
3
A client should understand what is happening
Legal work should not become a collection of documents and procedural steps that make little sense to the person whose case is being handled. It matters to me that a client understands the situation, the possible consequences and the reasoning behind the available options.
St Petersburg, the Leningrad Region and remote practice
My professional practice was shaped in St Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. This is where I built my legal career, worked on cases, appeared in court and developed the professional approach I use today.
My circumstances later changed, but my work with Russian law continued. Today, a substantial part of my consultations, document reviews and second-opinion work is carried out remotely, so a client’s location does not in itself prevent me from reviewing a matter.

LAWYER AND AUTHOR
Lawyer and author
Legal practice taught me to see not only the rule of law, but also the person inside the situation. Writing helps me explain complex things clearly, notice details and understand the story behind formal circumstances.
I write about people, cities and situations in which ordinary life changes unexpectedly. For me, law and literature have more in common than they may seem: both depend on facts, details, motives and the ability to see the whole picture.
